For All the Diamonds in the World
none are more precious than the Lord and Friends
For the past ten years, Clayton and I have spent
the third Saturday in August (opening day of archery bear as well as
quail) hunting bear with bow and arrow. We have exclusively hunted
the western most end of the Blue Ridge Mt. Range in the Angelus Crest
Forest. It is an extremely steep and old (lots of loose rocks) range.
Large ponderosa pine, black oaks, coulter pine, chaparral and an awesome
view out towards Edwards Air force Base in the Mohave Desert. The wind
comes up the canyons in the afternoon, and takes your hat off .We
have never harvested a bear , or a quail for that matter, but have
seen them and revelled in their ownership of the mountain. Our fellowship
on that range, has been sweet. We have resolved all the problems of this
fallen world while on this mountainside, and argued as well, as to the
process of salvation, what the future holds, you know, the usual
bickerings. What we did not bicker about was the fact that Jesus Christ
came into the world to save us, and in fact, we had experienced the new
birth. We were partners in shedding our old skin (it is a process, not an
event, as we realized) and had much in common.
Well, Sat. the 18, was opening day, as well as the
Memorial Service for Clayton. I spent the night on the mountain, got up at
4:30, and carried on the tradition alone. My morning devotions were
supernatural, that is all I can say. I was "swooped " (can't
think of a better way to describe it ) by
the Holy Spirit, and had a glorious morning thinking of my friend in
glory. I hiked out in time for the service, and was given an opportunity
to express my relationship with Clayton and present the Gospel to a lot of
lost folks. My friend is gone, but I shall see him again.
Praise God .
